Analysis of NME Magazine (Double Page Spread)

This is a double page spread from the magazine NME. The main image is of Florence Welsh and the article is about how she has conquered the USA with her new song ‘You’ve got the love’ but she is angry with herself. In most NME magazines they only use one picture that is spread over both pages. The image denotes a Florence sitting on what looks to be a US flag laid over stacked up boxes. She is dressed wearing black clothing and black shoes, as she is wearing all black gives a kind of Gothic look. Her hair is covering her face and her expression is very dull and blunt, this shows the reader that she is quite uncomfortable. In the background behind Florence has a big ‘USA’ font and just in front of that has the title of her new single ‘You’ve got the love.’ They have used play on words to create the name of the title ‘USA got the love.’ The double page spread has a brief summary of what the article is about under the title so the audience will know what they are about to read, they have made the ‘D’ a larger font to state the start of the article. The text has been laid out in columns and is the smallest text on the two pages. The font used for the article is simple and easy to read; this is a good idea as it then doesn’t draw the attention away from the main image. I will do the same for my music magazine as I don’t want the double page spread looking messy and look as if there is too much going on.
